How Dog Poop Inspired Me

Yes, this is a picture of dog poop! With all the crazy political posts, memes, name calling, accusations and downright disappointing behavior across the board and from every avenue, I wanted to break things down and give a different perspective.

As I was walking my dog this morning, I stumbled (thankfully didn’t step in) this dog poop. My first reaction was “Who doesn’t pick up their dog’s poop?” Then it made me think about people (humans) in general and how we are not taking ownership, responsibility, nor being accountable for our actions.

Dogs (and their owners) come in many shapes and sizes as well as colors. Young, old, tall, short, big, small, white, brown, black, tan, tri-colored. You’ve got a variety of pure breeds and you have a variety of mixed breeds aka mutts. For the most part if you are a dog lover, you love all dogs, if you are NOT a dog lover, you tolerate dogs and their humans, as in you are kind and respectful to their choices and lifestyle. Pretty basic, right? Growing up, when I would ask my dad what our heritage was, he would respond by saying we were like the Heinz 57 sauce, or sometimes he would say we were mutts. What he meant by that was coming from or being mixed from a lot of parts or origins.

So why on earth are we all so hell bent on projecting our personal opinions and beliefs onto others? Why are we criticizing and condemning (being judge and jury) before facts and due process? Anymore, thanks to the internet and social media – most are guilty until found innocent and then once those are found innocent, or the information turns out to be not as factual as first thought, that news isn’t nearly as important as it was to spread the initial information. It’s that knee jerk reaction syndrome.

My plea to all is before you go off on that rant or tangent, before you post something negative on social media to just take the time and pause, take a breathe, and don’t assume the worse of your fellow humans. Be more mindful of your own knee jerk reactions.
